MOUNT MAUNGANUI: India defeated Australia by eight wickets to win the 2017/18 ICC Under-19 World Cup.
Australia won the toss and chose to bat first in the final.
Australia amassed 216 runs on the scoreboard as Jonathan Merlo made 76 runs from 102 balls which included six boundaries.
Param Uppal made 34 runs from 58 balls while Jack Edwards scored 28 runs from 29 deliveries.
Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh, Kamelesh Nagarkoti and Anukul Roy grabbed two wickets while Shivam Mavi dismissed one Australian batsman.
India reached the target of 217 runs in 38.5 overs with eight wickets in hand.
Manjot Kalra scored an unbeaten century in the game which mattered most to the side, which remained unbeaten in the tournament.
The opener made 101 runs from 102 balls with eight fours and three maximums to his name while Harvik Desai contributed 47 runs from 61 balls after hitting five fours.
Shubman Gill and skipper Prithvi Shaw made 31 and 29 runs respectively for the team.
Will Sutherland and Param Uppal dismissed one Indian batsman each in the final.
Manjor Kalra was named Player of the Match while Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series.
